THE PUBLIC SPACE / INNOVATION
Background
More than 60,000 soldiers and civilians have been wounded since October 7 and in the subsequent Swords of Iron War, creating an enormous and unprecedented challenge for Israel’s healthcare system. Thousands of patients are receiving inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation treatment so that they can regain functional independence and return to their lives and communities. Rehab medicine has been the central medical story in Israel since Oct. 7.
For over six decades, Reuth TLV Rehabilitation Hospital, one of Israel’s largest rehab hospitals, has been a leading force in the Israeli healthcare system. Situated in southern Tel Aviv, Reuth has a 356-bed inpatient facility and Israel’s largest day rehab center. Every day, the medical teams at Reuth work to restore patients’ functional independence and empower them to reintegrate into society. Reuth never gives up on anyone.
Despite its vital role, Reuth faces significant challenges including overcrowding and outdated infrastructure. Currently, the hospital can only accommodate one in five requests from patients in need of rehabilitation, highlighting the urgent need for expansion and modernization.
The Project
Establishing a new innovative rehabilitation hospital situated on a 4-acre campus in the new Eshkol neighborhood of northern Tel Aviv – the Tel Aviv Foundation, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Reuth TLV Rehabilitation Hospital are building a future where every individual, regardless of age or circumstance, has access to the highest quality rehabilitation care. Delivering a modern, spacious campus that will serve as a beacon of excellence – making Israel a leader in physical and mental rehabilitation healthcare.
The Impact
The scarcity of rehabilitation services across Israel is a reality that impacts the lives of thousands of individuals, particularly those affected by war and terrorism, the elderly and those in need of specialized nursing care. And it is getting worse by the day. In these challenging times, we see an incredible opportunity to transform our vision into reality. The Reuth TLV Rehabilitation Hospital symbolizes a national commitment to healing, innovation, progress and resilience, serving the people of Israel for generations to come.
