Background

Manya Bialik was the late wife of Chaim Nachman Bialik, Israel’s national poet.

The house is located in the beating heart of the renovated Bialik Square, which includes six unique cultural institutions, among them Liebling House, the renovated Bialik House, and the new City Museum.

The square’s activities are coordinated by a municipal administration, with the aim of creating a holistic visitor experience at the urban heritage sites. The square attracts thousands of visitors daily, in addition to hosting a large number of cultural and artistic events.

The Need

Today, nearly sixty years after its establishment, the structure of Manya’s House is severely outdated, both in terms of its exterior appearance and interior condition.

Furthermore, the building is not accessible, the current poor condition of the building prevents the house from being a significant cultural anchor in the square and from taking part in the urban continuum.

The Project

The renewed Manya’s House will change its character and become the Urban Archive and Documentation Center;

The new archive will serve as a digital arm of the Municipal Archive Department, providing free and inviting access to the city’s treasures for all its residents. Manya’s House will become a home for historians, students, and intellectuals wishing to create and learn in the heart of the revitalized Bialik complex, adjacent to the city’s history.
