Background

In 1959, Holocaust Survivor and entrepreneur Ivan Moscovich founded the Museum of Science and Technology in Tel Aviv – the world’s first participatory science museum.

The museum closed its doors in 1975 but was the inspiration behind Frank Oppenheimer’s Exploratorium in San Francisco (founded in 1969).

The Exploratorium itself is the model on which many science museums are based, including MoMath in New York City.

The Need

Israel’s math education is at a critical moment – on the PISA test taken in 2019, Israel ranked 41 in math, an alarming low for the startup nation.

Creating a math museum will help reduce gaps between students from  North and South Tel Aviv in exams and studies of Math.

Reducing the “fear factor” of Mathematics,  specifically, amongst young girls – only 14% of Israeli girls matriculated at the highest level of math.

The Project

Establishing a center of participatory education that will inspire, ignite and strengthen the love and understating of mathematics – “the mother of all sciences” – amongst children in Tel Aviv-Yafo and around Israel, through meaningful and exciting experiences.
