On May 17, the Tel Aviv Foundation and the Israel Action Committee of the 5 Synagogues of White Plains sponsored an event at Congregation Kol Ami to celebrate Tel Aviv’s centennial and to benefit Hemda – the Center for Science Education in Tel Aviv. Co-chairs of the event were Ronit Bentov and Mark Selinger. The event was co-sponsored by the Westchester Jewish Conference.
The event was attended by more than 800 people and included a number of activities including a multimedia exhibit on the city of Tel Aviv, which highlighted the beauty and history of the city; Israeli vendors selling unique products, including food, clothing, jewelry, and artwork; Tel Aviv themed activities for children, including crafts, treats, and a “kiddie train;” and a display of Tel Aviv themed artwork created by religious school students in Westchester.
After enjoying the vendor fair, attendees were able to listen to a number of speakers, including Admiral (res.) Abraham Ben Shoshan, who spoke about the situation in Israel and the importance of the Israel-Diaspora connection. The event concluded with a concert by Pharaoh’s Daughter.
