tel aviv centennial celebration
dinner in new york

More than 350 guests joined Honorees Harvey Krueger and Josh Weston on November 16 to celebrate the Tel Aviv Centennial at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.

The evening started with a special visit by Mayor Bloomberg who spoke to the crowd at the general reception – referring to the special spirit that Tel Aviv and New York City share.

Master of Ceremonies Mike Burstyn guided the crowd through an evening of festivities, which included the showing of the multimedia installation "Tel Aviv: A Journey to a Vision" and speeches by Mayor of Tel Aviv Ron Huldai and Admiral (res.) Abraham Ben Shoshan, Director General of the Tel Aviv Foundation.

Singers Elinor Sohn and Inbar Goldman accompanied by pianist David Rosenmeyer, from the Israel Vocal Arts Institute, performed lovely Israeli songs and renowned tenor, Yevgeni Shapovalov, pleased the crowd with a whimsical yet incredible performance.

The formal program concluded with a keynote address by Ambassador Alon Pinkas.

Yet the highlight of the event were our Honorees who, that evening, received the Tel Aviv Benefactor Award - the highest honor the city of Tel Aviv awards to an individual for their outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Tel Aviv.

The proceeds from the event were designated to establish a new library and resource center at the Gretz school and support more classes at the Hemda Center for Science Education. More information on these projects is located at the bottom of this page.
